Prof. P.K. Viswanathan

P. K. Viswanathan
is an Adjunct Professor, Institute for Financial Management Research (IFMR) and Management Consultant Chennai, India. He teaches MBA students in Business Statistics, Management Science/Operations Research, Marketing Research, Spreadsheet Modeling, and TQM and participates as Faculty in the Executive Development Programs

Apart from executing key corporate consultancy assignments, he has designed and conducted training programs for many leading organizations in India. Ashok Leyland, Hindustan Lever, BILT, Hindustan Motors, MICO, Autolec, Bayer Chemicals, Indofil Chemicals Company, Mahindra & Mahindra, Merind, ABB, BHEL, NTPC, Thermax, Bhilai Steel Plant, ICIM, HTA, Wipro, BPL, Ramco, Sundaram Clayton, UCAL, SPIC, India Cements, Sista's, Eicher Tractors, Sundaram Finance, ITC, HCL, Tube Investments of India, United India Insurance, BEML, L & T, National Insurance Company, Origin Information Technology are among the many who have attended his programs.

Viswanathan has a brilliant academic record-First Rank in M.Sc., Statistics from the University of Madras, Rank holder MBA (FMS, Delhi), and MS degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada on a Fellowship.

In his industrial tenure of more than 15 years, he held senior management positions in Ballarpur Industries (BILT) of the Thapar Group and the J.K. Industries of the J.K. Organization.

  • Author of the book titled" Business Statistics-An Applied Orientation" Publisher- Pearson Education (Asia). 
  • Author of the Course Book on "Marketing Research" for the British Open University Business School, U.K.
  • Research Paper on "Modeling asset Allocation for Banks-A Goal programming Approach" is accepted for publication in "Prajnan" and will appear in the forthcoming issue(Jan-Mar 2007). 
  • An Approach to Segmenting Mutual Fund Investors" published in ICFAI Journal of Behavioral Finance(December 2006).
  • Article titled "Step by step Approach to Marketing Research in the journal Apeejay Business Review in July-December 2002.
  • Written an article on the "Role of Hypothesis Testing in Decision Making" that is hosted in hyperstat an online site of Rice University under the auspices of Professor David Lane. 
  • Written an article titled " Glimpses into Application of Chi-Square Tests into Marketing" hosted in the online site of Rice University under the auspices of Professor David Lane. 
  • Article titled "Is Six Sigma a mere Mantra or an Effective Action Plan?" in the Journal Mandate (September 2003 issue) published by Madras Management Association.
  • Developed course materials for the Corporate in the disciplines of SQC, Problem Solving and Decision Analysis, Resource Planning using Linear programming, Business Statistics, and Customer Satisfaction. 
  • As a Course Writer, written a number of lessons for the MBA program of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Research Methodology, Operations Research and Marketing Research.


  • Statistical Analysis on the competencies for the HR Professionals in the context of the Asian Feedback Conference held on September 2002. The entire analysis was done using SPSS.
  • Presented a paper titled "Weighted Penalty Cost Approach to Solving Priority Structure Goal Programming Problems" in the International Conference on Operations and Quantitative Management during 9-11 August 2005 at IIM, Indore.
  • Presented a paper titled "Modeling Sensitivity Analysis in Priority Structure Goal Programming" in the International Conference on Operations Research held in the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore during 27th and 29th December 2005.
